In these areas, safety is one of the priority issues. This study aims to determine the safety levels of the playgrounds in Burdur city center in terms of equipment and protective surfacing and the factors affecting safety in the playgrounds and creating a safety level map. For this purpose, 22 playgrounds in 12 neighborhoods in the city center were examined. In the study, data were collected through an observation form. The study showed that all the playgrounds were for the 2-12 age group. 6 neighborhoods and 12 playgrounds were classified as very safe. The safest and the most unsafe neighborhoods were Aydınlıkevler and Kuyu, respectively. The highest safety problem in the playgrounds in Burdur was determined as protective surfacing. In general, the playgrounds in Burdur were found very safe, but they still had some safety problems (e.g., general maintenance, protective surfacing, and equipment durability). Local authorities should immediately take steps to solve safety problems in playgrounds and adopt the understanding of providing equal service for each level of society. Consideration of safety criteria such as availability of equipment for different age groups, regular maintenance, and use of suitable protective surfacing in playgrounds will reduce the risk of injury.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessEvaluation of Public Playgrounds Safety: The Case Study of Burdur City Center, TurkeyArticle171142158534838
